Port Scanning is one of the most popular techniques used by hackers to discover services that can be compromised.
- A potential target computer runs many ‘services’ that listen at ‘well-known’ ‘ports’.
- By scanning which ports are available on the victim, the hacker finds potential vulnerabilities that can be exploited.
- Scan techniques can be differentiated broadly into Vanilla, Strobe, Stealth, FTP Bounce, Fragmented Packets, Sweep and UDP Scans.
Port Scanning Techniques
Port Scanning Techniques can be broadly classified into:
- Open scan
- Half- open scan
- Stealth scan
- Sweeps
- Misc

There is no in built DOS/Windows tool/command for Port Scanning

Hey i got a probim using iptools but i cant get ay info from NB scanner. My operatig system is vista,and i gues ip tools dont work with it. could u give me addvice for some same proggram but working in vista. thnx keep the gr8 work

IP tools works fine even in Vista (I have tested it)
Try downloading the latest version
One more tool you can use is “Angry IP Scan” which does the job in a much quicker way(when configured correctly) and allows direct options for the resultant ips
