What to do when your Orkut Account is Hacked ?

It can be a nightmare if someone else takes control of your Google Account because all your Google services like Gmail, Orkut, Google Calendar, Blogger, AdSense, Google Docs and even Google Checkout are tied to the same account.

Here are some options suggested by Google Support when your forget the Gmail password or if someone else takes ownership of your Google Account and changes the password:

1. Reset Your Google Account Password:

Type the email address associated with your Google Account or Gmail user name at Gmail Forgot Password Link - you will receive an email at your secondary email address with a link to reset your Google Account Password. This will not work if the other person has changed your secondary email address or if you no longer have access to that address.

2. For Google Accounts Associated with Gmail:

If you have problems while logging into your Gmail account, you can consider contacting Google by filling this form. It however requires you to remember the exact date when you created that Gmail account.

3. For Hijacked Google Accounts Not Linked to Gmail:

If your Google Account doesn’t use a Gmail address, contact Google by filling this form. This approach may help bring back your Google Account if you religiously preserve all your old emails. You will be required to know the exact creation date of your Google Account plus a copy of that original “Google Email Verification” message. It may be slightly tough to get your Google Account back but definitely not impossible if you have the relevant information in your secondary email mailbox.

    Prevention is better than cure, just dont let it happen, dont sign in your ids at public places or even your pc(before u r sure that its not been compromised)

    Go to forgot password helpline n den try to recall all wat u entered in the account page…It can help bt nt a good method…

    am not able to get ma password …am using yahoo id to orkut..
    orkut and my yahhoo both of them are not accessable now…

    and am not able to fill the form also,.. i don rem the details of wen i created this account and all that…

    plz suggest me any other options

    is there a way to get google account creation date in case we don’t remember it and i definitely can recollect any of the dates for all the services I’m using now

    in my orkut account my privacy setting of photo was not changing from everyone to “my friends only” . all other settings was changing. i want to know was my account was hacked?

    Clear all your cookies and try once again after some time. It should work and it doesn’t mean that your account is hacked.

    Well i tried but not working i also told my friend to operate my account she could also not change the setting of it. now i had deleted my account and made a new one in which also settings are not changing from everyone to only my friend.pls help me and suggest me what should i do now?
    let my explain you in detail. one day when i was operating my orkut account ,the small window appear on right side of the screen as it used to be always saying “new orkut team chatting” somewhat like this it says, when i clicked on it to minimize it all of the sudden 50 sites are opened and site was like http://www.talkgadget... somewhat like this after that when i check my setting it was not changing. and one more thing that i saw was my orkut account was showing the email id of gmail which i had not mentioned in the orkut account…
    i am not getting what is happenning? when i operated my brother’s account also i found the same problem please suggest me a remedy for it..

    Try accessing your account from another computer. If it works fine from another comp then all you need to do is just format your harddisk (only the OS drive) and reinstall your OS.

    i tried from my friends computer as i mentioned before also i told my friend to operate my account she did it from her computer but not working … what should i do now?

    Srikant please answer me for the following questions
    1.can a cyber police will help us to get back lost orkut password?
    2.Is it possible for them to trace IP address of the hacker by having contact with Google?
    3.Will they (Google) keep logs of a particular account’s activity (like signin date and IP address)?
    4.Is it really a cyber crime —-> My friend uploaded someone’s photo to his a/c, he applied it as profile photo and gave a caption (he used some bad words). AND that person registered cyber crime. Will they take action on my friend?

    Hello Sir, I’m Michael sir my Orkut account is now showing the error to check either my id or password..I think I left it open & shut down the pc & somebody has owned it & changed its password may be. Please sir help me. What should I do now..?

    Just click on “forgot password” link and follow the instructions to reset the password. Thats it.
